PA Dismisses Objections to Its Agreement with Hamas
Following a statement late Tuesday by the Israeli security cabinet that it will not negotiate with the Palestinian Authority if it moves forward with plans to reconcile and merge with the Islamist terror militia Hamas, PA presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh told reporters that the PA would “move forward with the reconciliation efforts,” regardless of Israel’s position. He added that this was being done, “In order to achieve the national project, end the occupation and establish the independent Palestinian state on all the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.” Hamas also condemned the Israeli decision as an example of “Israeli interference in internal Palestinian matters.”

The European Union issued a statement warmly welcoming the reconciliation agreement between the PA and Hamas, despite the fact that the EU officially considers Hamas to be a terrorist organization.
