Thousands of Christians in Jerusalem for Pentecost

Thousands of Christians flocked to Jerusalem this past weekend for the Empowered 21 Conference at the capital’s Pais Arena, coinciding with the Biblical festival of Shavuot (Pentecost) and commemorating the first Pentecost following the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, described by many theologians as the birth of the Church. “This is a pivotal moment in history for the global Spirit–empowered movement,” said Empowered21 President and Global Co–Chair William M. Wilson. “The Impartation service, which will pass the mantel of the global Spirit–empowered movement on to the next generation, is of particular significance. Our prayer is that this service will be a catalyst, igniting the hearts and minds of young people from around the globe with the fire of God’s love and power.”

Meanwhile, Israelis marked the festival by, among other things, sharing their agricultural knowledge with developing countries.

Shavuot, also called the Festival of Harvest and of First Fruits, commemorates the Biblical custom of bringing offerings to the Temple from the first fruits of the harvest and the first animals born to the flocks.

“As we gather to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, the Festival of Harvest, we are reminded of our mission of sharing with others our best agricultural practices and technologies to attain global food security,” said Ambassador Gil Haskel.
