Isaiah 62 Prayer Letter - October 2019

Dear Prayer Partners,

October is an exciting and very busy month for Israel, including a series of biblical feasts, starting with Rosh HaShana (Feast of Trumpets). In Israel, this feast is a Jewish holiday celebrating the beginning of the year based on the Jewish calendar. For observant Jews, it is also the start of a period of repentance that will last 10 days and end with fasting on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). And only days later, they begin the great celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles (Feast of Booths) to remember God’s provision in the wilderness. (Leviticus 23:23-44)

At the ICEJ in Jerusalem, we are busy preparing for our annual Feast of Tabernacles celebration. We are expecting over five thousand Christians from 90 nations to come up to Jerusalem once again, to worship God during this Feast, as the prophet Zechariah envisioned (Zechariah 14:16). The ICEJ needs your prayers, as it is our desire that God’s presence and glory will be upon the Feast and that all preparations will be blessed.

Meanwhile in Israel, everyone is watching carefully how the political situation after the second election in September will unfold. Who will lead the next government? Will it be a unity government? Will the new government be able to deal with the security threats and economic challenges facing the nation? On top of all of this, Israel also needs to keep an eye on regional developments following the recent Iranian-backed attack on the Saudi oil fields.

In many ways, we can see that we are in the season of new beginnings, with the Jewish New Year and potentially a new government. The theme of the ICEJ Feast of Tabernacles 2019 is “Beginnings”. In all of these things, it is important to remember that God is the beginning and the end. “I am the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Revelation 22:13)

Therefore, during this month we should pray with boldness, confidence and humility for Israel, knowing our God is the one that holds everything together. “He is before all things, and in Him all things holds together.” (Colossians 1:17)

If you are joining us in Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles we gladly invite you to also join us in the prayer succah at the Pais Arena to intercede for Israel and the nations. If you are not able to join us, please lift us up in your prayers!

Let’s pray together!

Shalom from Jerusalem,
